Tally
A private money app I built for myself. It logs spending, tracks net worth, plans each paycheck, keeps an eye on the car and its loan and handles zakat and halal screening of investments.

why.
I wanted one place for spending, budgets, savings goals, bills, the car, investments and net worth, without paying for an app or handing my data to one. And none of the apps I tried handled zakat.
how money gets in.
Bank transactions, balances and holdings come in through Plaid, every morning and the moment the bank has something new. An iOS Shortcut logs Apple Pay taps instantly and anything can be added by hand. All three are deduplicated, sorted into categories by merchant rules and matched to bills to mark them paid.
what it does.
Today shows what's left to spend, net worth and what's coming up. Spending breaks down where the money goes. Plan covers a zero based budget, bills, savings buckets, a debt payoff plan, a 45 day cash forecast and where each paycheck should go. Wealth covers net worth, investments, zakat and the car.
Zakat is calculated with the choices kept as settings, not defaults and the next due date follows the lunar year. Holdings are screened for halal compliance. A daily push only goes out when there's something worth saying.
how it's built.
A FastAPI backend on Vercel, Supabase Postgres and a front end with no build step that installs on my phone as an app. Sign in is a magic link to one email with Face ID to unlock and bank tokens are encrypted at rest. GitHub Actions run the morning refresh and the daily reminder.
The design is one ink on one page: near black on white, true inverse in dark mode, with green and red only on changes. Every screen is tested in both themes.
how it works.
- bank, Shortcut or manual entry
- deduplicate and categorize
- mark bills paid, update budgets
- refresh balances and net worth every morning
